Malagos Trivia Tuesday

Malagos Garden Resort

An agri-ecotourism destination, Malagos Garden Resort has welcomed travellers and families since 1994. Guests of all ages may take part in a variety of recreational activities which led Malagos to be one of the best family resorts in Davao. From our unique and interactive bird and animal shows all the way to the first Chocolate museum in the country, we are an inland resort in Davao City close to every Dabawenyos heart.

Very soon, the Malagos Garden Resort will be sharing experiences with nature to you again. In the meantime, here’s a quick trivia for you today. Our history is rooted in deep love, passion, and respect for our lands. Our founders, Roberto Puentespina and Charita Puentespina bought their first farm in 1963 located in the foothills of Mt. Talomo. From here, Ms. Charita Puentespina, a farmer by heart and act, cultivated the land and planted various coconut trees, coffee beans, and bananas. After which, in 1977, she began nurturing and growing orchids in the land. In 1988, it was incorporated to what it is now. It has four main production operations: cut flower production, cut foliage production, Orchids and pot plant production, all the way to ornamental  and landscape plants production. A few years later and the land led into becoming the  Malagos Garden Resort. With Ms. Charita’s deep love for plants, did you know that the Malagos Garden Resort Villas, nestled in a grove of pine trees, are named after our plants?

From our Honeymoon Suite, the Heliconia, Executive Villas the Mussaenda and Mariposa all the way to our family suites. Each one is named after the beautiful plants you can see around the resort.

Palmera. Feel right at home in Malagos Family Suite. Creamy white walls, brick elements, indoor plants, and large windows that flood the entire space with natural lighting make the atmosphere not only light and airy, but also filled with so much character. Featuring two bedrooms, a living room, and a veranda, guests can’t help but stay a while in a suite that even the kids will appreciate. Palmera plants may be grown indoors or kept outside. These plants prefer a dry area, subtropical climate with partial humidity and partial shade. Most outdoor palmera plants survive well under direct sunlight provided the plant has enough water.

Pandakaki. Modest and welcoming, this is the best place to stay with family and friends. Pandakaki is an endemic plant  with white small flowers, scattered all over or in little thickets under coconut trees. It is very resistant to drought that we can see them leafless during dry seasons, but eventually grow again with the coming rainy months. It will survive with adequate water and sunlight and one of the few plants you can definitely keep during the rainy season.

Recently, the Malagos Garden Resort through the Malagos Homegrown Produce recently rolled out the first batch of our potted ornamental plants. Each one we have are fresh from the luscious gardens of the Malagos! From dainty Pandakakis, elegant Palmeras, all the way to the beautiful Fiddle Leaf fig, simply head on to the Malagos Homegrown Produce plant section, order what you want, and we’ll deliver it to you in no time. See you soon!
